Why We Started Thordis Foundation
Thordis Foundation isn’t just another organization; it’s the heart of our personal mission. My wife and I made a decision early on that we wouldn’t have kids of our own. Instead, we felt a strong pull to help the countless children out there who desperately need a chance at a better future.
We first crossed paths in Sydney, and it was pretty clear from the start that we were both on the same page. I was deep into my Social Work studies, while my wife was out there, traveling and volunteering with NGOs in places like Ghana, Australia, and Fiji. She saw up close how many kids are stuck in tough situations, with no real way out.
But the real spark for Thordis Foundation came before we even met. I’ll never forget the moment when the daughter of our cleaning lady had to drop out of school because her family couldn’t afford it. Not long after, she was married off, and all the dreams she had for herself just vanished. That moment stuck with me—a harsh reminder of how many kids’ futures are cut short by things they can’t control.
Fast forward to 2010, we got married and moved to Europe. I tried my hand at various businesses—some worked out, others ending in bankruptcy. But through all the ups and downs, the dream of making a difference in kids’ lives never left us. By the time I hit 40, it was clear that if we didn’t do something now, we might never do it. So, with my wife and a solid group of friends backing us, we decided to stop dreaming and start doing.
That’s how Thordis Foundation came to life—born out of urgency and a need to take action. What makes us different? None of us take a salary. We’re all volunteers, balancing our own jobs and businesses with our passion for this cause. Our team is made up of people who see this work as more than a job—it’s a calling. We put everything we have into this, knowing that every cent goes straight to empowering girls through education and helping them break free from the cycle of poverty.
We believe education is the key to unlocking potential and creating real change. Thordis Foundation is here to make sure that stories like the one I witnessed don’t end in despair, but in hope and transformation. We’re living proof that it’s never too late to follow your dreams and make a difference. Together, we can create a world where every child has the chance to thrive.
