Around the world, millions of girls face significant barriers to education. These barriers are often deeply entrenched in cultural, economic, and social norms that undervalue girls’ education and prioritize boys’ schooling. At Thordis Foundation, we are working to break down these barriers and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to learn.

One of the most significant barriers girls face is financial. In many families, limited resources mean that parents must choose which of their children to send to school. Unfortunately, in many cultures, boys’ education is prioritized, leaving girls at home to help with household chores or care for younger siblings. The cost of school fees, uniforms, and supplies can also be prohibitive, forcing families to make difficult choices.

Cultural norms and gender biases also play a significant role in keeping girls out of school. In some communities, early marriage is seen as more important than education, and girls are pulled out of school to become wives and mothers before they are ready. Safety concerns, such as the long distances many girls must travel to reach school, also prevent them from accessing education.

At Thordis Foundation, we are tackling these challenges head-on. We work closely with communities to raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education and to challenge the norms that keep girls out of school. We provide financial support to cover school fees, supplies, and transportation, ensuring that no girl is denied an education because of her family’s economic situation. By breaking down these barriers, we are helping to create a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn and thrive.
